More than any
advertising
award for
my writing
that I have ever received,
a phone call from Ashok
Salian out of the blue is
what I will treasure to my
last breath. Ashok, who
was going through some of
my two gazillion snaps on
Facebook along with Satish
Ambewadikar, another
Contract CD, to cast a real
woman rather than a model
for a campaign, simply said,
I don’t know who you are,
but I had to call you up to tell
you that you must keep on
shooting portraits, you have
an eye for it.
There is a line inscribed
in a fancy French salon in
Bandra, Mumbai that reads,
Each woman is unique
and must be paid particular
attention.
Which is pretty
much what my old faithful
Leica Digilux Two and I
have been up to, in every free
moment between the twin
demands of family and work.
To faithfully document every
woman’s soul, to capture her
story, her hopes, her dreams,
her past, her present and her
future in one frame. That is
my vision. It is a pretty one,
you will agree.
